Medical Internships

No matter which domain you choose to make your own, as a student today you need to go the extra mile to supplement theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The best way to do this is to take up an internship. Medical internships in particular have greater value addition powers than internships in any other field. This is because medicine and health care as a field is based largely on practical experience. What is also of prime importance when it comes to this field is starting early. If you are planning for a career is health care and medicine, you need to think years in advance. Building up your resume is of utmost importance. So wherever you may be studying right now, pursuing summer medical internships is not a shabby idea.

When it comes to internships in this field you have a large number of options to choose from. You can work with a healthcare facility such as a hospital or clinic. You can also work with research organizations. In addition, many universities run summer research programs which allow you to be a part of a project and understand first-hand how this part of the domain works. Other places where you can work as a medical intern include nursing and convalescent homes, psychiatric facilities, counseling services, biological research stations, bioethics centers, pharmaceutical firms, and government health planning agencies.

When it comes to pre-medical internships, you can look for working in a clinical setting which will give you a detailed idea of where you will be working once you pursue and get your medical degree. Generally, these internships encompass administrative work such as filing, restocking medical supplies etc. However, it is an excellent way to network and forge connections. And there isn’t much chance of such an internship being a paid medical internship. However, do not let that deter you because the experience that you gain is invaluable. Not to mention the boost that your CV gets. Always keep in mind that the purpose of an internship is adding to your learning curve, so if an attractive opportunity presents itself, don’t hang back due to lack of a stipend.

You can start adding to your CV when you are in high school itself. You have the option of pursuing medical internships for high school students. Although, as a high school student you can hunt for securing an internship with any of the places mentioned above, you also have access to internship programs run by universities which are designed specifically for students like yourself who have a very basic understanding of foundation concepts. Such a program would be of immense help to someone who isn’t sure whether healthcare is the right choice as it would expose you to what the field entails in a structured manner.

To get your hands on internships in the medical field, you need to do the leg work. However, the internet can come to your rescue in the form of sites such as lazyzach.com and make the entire process much less rigorous.
